Meditation
C.S. Lewis talks about something that happens in a Christian’s life that is better experienced than explained. For many years I tried very hard to ‘be Christian.’ But many of my thoughts were far from Christian and my actions did not match my intentions. It seemed that the minute I got one defect under control another would pop up. I called myself Christian and believed that similar to philosophical worldviews like stoicism, it would just take practice and persistence to see things as a Christian would see them and act as a Christian would.

Lewis discusses how much of the Christian life begins with these efforts but they are largely there to show the believer how little power he or she has over even the smallest of things. And I’ve found this to be true in my life. It was not until I truly let go and declared that I can do nothing, and believed it, that beautiful things started happening.

So eventually, by God’s grace, I ran out of options on how to ‘do life’ in my own way. I eventually gave over. Now I hope for good. I hope that God will fight my battles for me. I have faith that He will shape me. All I have to do is focus on remaining in Him and being still.
